Get Irvin’s color book, not the b/w. I critique and read Irvin’s gallery chapter in his book The Holy Mushroom. A losing unprofitable game, I’m not playing “yes it is, no it isn’t a mushroom”.
The Principle of Artist Responsibility

If you deliver mushroom imagery, then that inherently proves you mean mushrooms — an argument not from artist intention, but from viewer: the measure of “what does msh imagery means”, is:
DO WE AGREE THAT THIS IMAGE IS BOUND TO GIVE THE VIEWER A MSH IMPRESSION?
IF YES, THEN BY DEFINITION, OBJECTIVELY THE IMAGE MEANS MSH, REGARDLESS OF INCOHERENT CLAIMS THAT “ARTIST DIDN’T MEAN MSH”.
The art historians already lost this argument, they’ve tipped their hand, they already gave away the truth: art historians call them “mushroom trees”.

But “salamander is a symbol for Amanita”, as Irvin asserts, is worthless and incidental at best.

Irvin wrongly says “Opium, Rue, Psilocybin, Amanita” – a popular wrong analysis from most entheogen scholars. And Irvin fails to mention — self-contradictory! — in the “God creates plants” plate, msh 2’s cap includes “little mushrooms” (liberty cap caps), yet Irvin points them out in the Tree of Knowledge plate from Eadwine immeditately below it on Irvin’s same page!
If the upper panel (God creates plants), plant 2, contains IDENTICAL “little mushrooms in the top”, then how can Irvin claim that that plant is “Syrian Rue”? Since when does Rue’s top have “little mushrooms” (liberty cap caps) in the top? Irvin doesn’t even mention this huge self-contradiction!
